Tottenham Hotspur were eliminated from the Europa League following their 3-2 aggregate defeat against Gent at Wembley Stadium on Thursday.
The Lilly Whites got off to a good start and took the lead inside 10 minutes when Christian Eriksen calmly slotted the ball past Kalinic to make it 1-0.
Two minutes later, Spurs came close to doubling their lead when Kyle Walker set up Dele Alli, but his half-volleyed effort went just wide of the target.
However, Gent levelled matters in the 20th minute when Harry Kane headed the ball into his own net from the resulting corner to make it 1-1.
In the 35th minute, Kalinic came to his side’s rescue when he made a top-draw save to deny Walker a strike at his near post.
However, Tottenham were dealt a major blow in the 39th minute when Alli received his marching orders for an over-the-top challenge on Dejaegere.
In the first 45 minutes of the match the scoreline was locked at 1-1 as the match went into the half-time interval.
Spurs took the lead for the second time in the match when Victory Wanyama got on the end of a loose ball in the area before curling his effort into the top-left corner to make it 2-1.
Gent then levelled matters in the 80th minute when Coulibaly’s effort found the back of the net after his deflected strike off Dier went in to make it 2-2.
Spurs had a chance to win the match in stoppage time when Kane turned to beat his marker before guiding his strike towards the target, but it skimmed just wide as Gent finished with a 3-2 aggregate score over Tottenham Hotspur.
