The Premier Soccer League has commended Mamelodi Sundowns after they were crowned Multichoice Diski Challenge champions on Sunday.
The Brazilians finished the season at the summit of the MDC standings with 34 points, having won 11 out of 15, while Bloemfontein Celtic finished in second place with 30 points.
Sundowns cruised to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Cape Town City to claim their first ever MDC trophy at the Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.
The PSL acting chief executive Mato Madlala heaped praise on the Brazilians when congratulating them on winning the reserve league, in what has been a ‘particularly, competitive and tough’ season.
‘The third season of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge has been particularly competitive and tough. We would like to give credit to Mamelodi Sundowns management, the technical team, the players and the club supporters for the feat,’ Madala said.
‘I think it is now an accepted truth that the MultiChoice Diski Challenge has added a spark to our football and the results on the field – mainly in giving a platform to many youngsters – have been remarkable.
‘We would like to thank our partners, MultiChoice, for a wonderful journey.’
After adding the MDC title to their trophy cabinet, Sundowns have now been awarded with an eight-day training camp in the Netherlands given to the overall winners of the Diski Challenge.
