Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says he was disappointed on what transpired following their stalemate against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
The Soweto giants played out to a 1-1 draw at the FNB Stadium when an own goal by Tshepo Masilela cancelled out Joseph Molangoane’s 16th-minute opener as both sides walked away with a point each.
The 49-year-old coach says he was disappointed with the outcome of the match, especially after Willard Katsande missed a penalty late on, which could’ve ultimately won them the match.
‘We feel a bit disappointed on what transpired. It was a game of small margins,’ Komphela told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
‘We missed a penalty, five minutes before the end of the match. That clouds a bit my opinion at the moment.’
Willard Katsande, who otherwise delivered a sterling performance, missed the penalty, as his weak shot was stopped by the Buccaneers keeper.
Komphela insists that he does not blame Katsande for the outcome of the match but admits that his side’s failure to convert their chances in the final third played a crucial role in the result of the match.
‘No, not yet. I also don’t want to blame anybody. It happens. I was desperate to win, but talking to Willard now doesn’t help, the match is finished,’ He added.
‘I just hate it that we couldn’t win the game, despite getting enough chances to do so.’
Kaizer Chiefs will next take on National First Division side Stellenbosch in a Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 20:15.
