Safa president Danny Jordaan has raised eyebrows by withdrawing his candidacy from the race for a seat on the Fifa council at the 23rd hour, according to reports.
Jordaan was set to be elected to Fifa’s council after South Sudan’s Chabur Goc Alei withdrew his name from consideration. Now, Caf face a crisis of sorts to fill their place on the council.
The Herald report that Jordaan ‘pulled out of the race on Monday‚ in a letter sent at 3pm‚ just hours before Fifa published results of integrity checks into the candidates.’
The newspaper also reports that ‘Jordaan’s withdrawal came just days after success in a month-long legal fight he had with Caf to move a potential powerful opponent from his category in elections.’
Caf will host a congress next week to determine the winners in different categories with seven seats to fill on the Fifa council.
