Maritzburg United coach Roger De Sa says he feels his side could well have walked away with a point or three following their derby against Golden Arrows.

The Team of Choice fell to a 1-0 defeat against Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium and are set to face Abafana bes’Thende at the same venue in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 on Sunday.

The 53-year-old coach believes the Team of Choice were the better side on the day and did everything right except collect all three points.

‘Overall I think the performance was good, it was just the result obviously that was not. Overall we did the right things, apart from the mistake for the goal, slack marking,’ De Sa told the Maritzburg United website.

‘Apart from that, I thought we were in control for most of the time. I thought for a derby we kept the pace very well, we had the better chances.

‘We did everything except win the game. It’s a cruel game it goes that way. Sometimes we may have the same – we might play badly and get the win. I still believe we were the better side, but it didn’t go our way.’

De Sa continued to say that he remains confident that his side still has a chance of finishing in the top of the Absa Premiership this season.

‘We are realistically still in with a chance at the top eight, so we are trying to get in there, trying to sneak into those last two or three positions that might be available,’ he added.

‘We lost now, but won last week – it will go up and down a bit, the thing that is lacking is a bit of consistency, composure in front of goal.

‘We’ve been poor in front of goal, although I don’t just believe it’s us, it’s the whole nation problem. We’ve got to get it right, got to put the ball in the net.’

Maritzburg United will next take on Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup Last 31 encounter on Sunday.

The match at the Princess Magogo Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
