Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls have announced that Bradley Carnell has been named as the club’s new assistant coach.
The 40-year-old will join Jesse Marsch’s staff as their new assistant coach, having parted ways with Orlando Pirates.
The New York Red Bulls manager says he is looking forward to the prospect of working with a coach who has as much experience as Carnell.
‘Bradley brings a tremendous amount of experience from his time playing at high levels in Germany and with his national team,’ Marsch told the New York Red Bulls website.
‘We look forward to him bringing that perspective to our staff and helping us prepare our team each week.’
Carnell began his professional career in 1993 with Wits University (now Bidvest Wits), before he was snapped up by Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.
The defender spent the majority of his career in Germany, playing for the likes of VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Monchengladbach, Karlsruher SC and F.C. Hansa Rostock, before finishing his career back in South Africa with Supersport United.
Carnell also featured regularly for the South African national team, making 40 appearances for Bafana Bafana between 1997 and 2010. He also played all three games at the 2002 Fifa World Cup.
Can’t wait to join my new soccer family @NewYorkRedBulls. Thanks to my wife and family for all the support. See you soon stateside. 👍🇺🇸
