Steve Komphela believes Kaizer Chiefs’ Absa Premiership encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns will be a match of small margins.
The Glamour Boys are currently on a nine-match unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership, having last suffered a defeat against Chippa United on December 3, 2016.
The 49-year-old believes fans should not expect many goals in their mouthwatering fixture against Sundowns, as it will be a game of ‘small margins’.
‘These breaks can affect the momentum, it’s always better to keep your rhythm, especially when winning, but that’s just how it is.
‘We will all know where we stand at the end of April,’ Komphela told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
The Glamour Boys are in fourth spot in the Absa Premiership standings with 36 points from 21 games, while the Brazilians have two points less, but have four games in hand.
Komphela feels that it’s important that Amakhosi play their own positive football come Saturday, as that’s what the supporters will want to see
He says fans can expect a tightly contested match, but feels that it’s important for Amakhosi to play their own style of football on Saturday.
‘A very tight game and the stakes will be high. Football is therapy. You want the people to come to the game and enjoy themselves, they want to be entertained,’ he added.
‘It will be a big match on Saturday. And it’s going to be played out in the middle of the park. That’s also the future of the game, how are you able to operate in half spaces. And, if you get the ball, what do you then do with it.
‘Sundowns’ strategy is to play without wingers and, instead, overcrowd the midfield. That way they want to limit the space there. It will be a crucial battle. Saturday’s match will be won or lost in midfield.’
Kaizer Chiefs will take on Mamelodi Sundowns when the Absa Premiership returns on Saturday.
The match at the FNB Stadium kicks off at 20:15.
