Brendan Venter insists he will not ‘coach against the Springboks’ again, despite his involvement as a defence coach for Italy.
Venter has come on board as the Boks’ new defence and exits coach in a consulting capacity, but on Monday, Italian rugby media officer Andre Cimbrico stated that he would be back working with Italy ahead of November’s internationals.
Before signing with the Boks, Venter had signed a contract with Italy that runs until the 2019 World Cup. The dual roles have caused some confusion, with thoughts that Venter would be back coaching for Italy when they next play the Boks on 15 November.
However, taking to Twitter, Venter sought to provide some clarity over the matter through a series of comments:
Lots of speculation going on regarding my appointment with the Springboks. One thing is for certain. I wont coach against the Boks again.

Why are we so obsessed with a long term contract. If i add value. Re access. If i dont add value i should move on and somebody else must try

A big part of my coaching success is that i dont fear being fired. If i dont succeed i will leave. No strings attached. No payout. Bargain.

I do things because i believe in the challenge and because it makes memories and friends. I dont need a longterm contract to be committed.

I honestly hope this trivial debate can now be put to bed and we can all get back to trying our best to get the Boks back to their best.
