Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes that his side will never win the award for Best Goal of the Month, following his side’s 3-0 victory against Golden Arrows.
Goals by Gabadinho Mango and a brace by Mogakolodi Ngele ensured that the Braamfontein based-outfit moved to the top of the Absa Prermieship table. Although their 52-year-old mentor revealed his delight at the victory, the former SuperSport United coach suggested that Ngele wouldn’t win the monthly goal award, based on the voting process.
‘There’s no easy game, especially when it comes to this time of the season. We had to really work hard for this tonight,’ he said in post-match comments.
‘I thought we were excellent in the first half. Shape was good, we played well and created three unbelievable chances. Gaba [Mhango] had an unbelievable chance in the first half, but he kept working.
‘And we scored a goal … not of the month … well, we’ll never win Goal of the Month, you know that … so, Goal of the Year, unbelievable goal.
When quizzed about the reasons as to why he would make such a claim, Hunt responded by saying ‘you know how it works.’
‘No, not us, not our club, you know how it works,’ he concluded.
Wits turn their attention to the Caf Confederation Cup as they travel to Egypt to face Smouha SC in the second leg on Saturday, April 15th with kick-off set for 18:00.
The Clever Boys played to a goalless draw at home in the first leg of the encounter.
