Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he was satisfied to clinch a 1-0 win over a ‘well-organised’ SuperSport United side in the Tshwane derby on Wednesday.

The Brazilians claimed their third consecutive win in the Absa Premiership when they beat Matsatsantsa at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, courtesy of an 83rd-minute goal by captain Hlompho Kekana.

Sundowns have now completed the double over Stuart Baxter’s side, following the 5-0 thumping in their first encounter in the PSL seven days ago.

The 52-year-old says his side squandered the chance to close the gap on the league leaders after they fell to their fourth defeat in the Absa Premiership at the hands of Free State Stars.

‘We squandered our games in hand, that is a fact and we are no longer there. Yeah, 1-0 and we go through again,’ Mosimane told SuperSport TV.

Mosimane went on to say that he was more than delighted to claim all three points against a ‘well-organised’ Matsatsantsa side, and insists Sundowns will keep on fighting as they continue their quest to defend their title.

‘I’m happy to take 1-0, this is not a five tonight. It was a well-organised SuperSport team, we probed, we tried to get through, it was not there,’ he added.

‘But I am happy with the boys, I am happy for the supporters, they’ve been patient with us, they keep singing, they kept us going.’

The win means Mosimane’s side sits fourth in the Absa Premiership standings with 44 points and they are now two points short of league leaders Cape Town City, and one point behind Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits in second and third place respectively.

Meanwhile, Sundowns and Wits have two games in hand over City and Amakhosi, with Matsatsantsa trailing the leaders by six points in fifth place.

Mamelodi Sundowns will be hoping to continue their winning ways when they take on Ajax Cape Town in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday, 24 April.

The match at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
