Metta right back Kabelo Seriba has become the latest player to report for national team duty, with Amajita preparing for their trip to Amsterdam.
The 19-year-old will be part of the travelling contingent to the Netherlands, where Amajita will play three practice matches as part of preparations for the upcoming 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Seriba was part of the inaugural Amajita squad, but missed the 2017 edition of the Caf U20 African Cup of Nations in Zambia, where South Africa finished fourth.
The former SuperSport United youth product says he is well aware that he is not guaranteed a spot in the final 21-man squad, and knows that only hard work will help him make the cut.
‘I am fully aware that this is a preliminary squad and that I will have to earn my place in the team,’ Seriba said.
‘We have quality in every department, and players are very hungry and itching to go to the World Cup, so I am not different.
‘It would be a great honour to represent my country in South Korea, but I know I will not walk into the team, I will have to work very hard to secure my place on the plane to the tournament.’
The midfielder added that he is happy to be back home, and enjoying what’s left of the summer sun in South Africa.
‘It always feels good to be back home and playing for my country. It can get very cold in Latvia, which is in Northern Europe – so I truly appreciate coming back to South Africa and enjoying the African warmth,’ he added.
‘I arrived last night (Sunday), but I can tell you now that I have already shifted my mind to training, because we all know there is a lot of work to be done and I just want to earn my place in the team.’
He last represented Amajita in December 2016 in Rustenburg, and was part of the squad that came second in the Cosafa Cup tournament after going down 2-1 to the Junior Chipolopolo of Zambia in the final.
The South Africans travel to the Netherlands on Wednesday 26 April 2017, where they will play practice matches against Feyenoord, Ajax Amsterdam and PEC Zwolle on 29 April, 30 April and 2 May.
Amajita are expected back in the country on Thursday, 4 May 2017 to continue with their World Cup preparations.
