Loose forward Boom Prinsloo has joined the Bulls on a two-year deal until the end of the 2019 season.
The 28-year-old will link up with his new teammates on Monday, as his contract with the Bulls comes into effect immediately.
But according Netwerk24.com, Prinsloo will not play any part in the remainder of the Bulls’ Super Rugby campaign, because he has already represented the Cheetahs in the competition this year. He played in two matches – against the Bulls and the Jaguares – before he suffered an injury.
One of Sanzaar’s rules dictate that a player may not represent a team if he had already been named in the match 23 of a different side in the same season. It is believed the Bulls are in contact with Sanzaar about the possibility of playing Prinsloo at some stage this year.
Prinsloo has plied his trade in Bloemfontein for the past 10 years, having represented Free State at U18, U19 and U21 levels, the Shimlas in the Varsity Cup and the Cheetahs at Currie and Super Rugby levels.
‘It was a difficult decision, but it was time for a career move,’ said Prinsloo. ‘I’ll always be thankful to the Free State Rugby Union for what they’ve done for me, and the opportunities they’ve granted me over past 10 years.’
‘I just think it’ll do me good to play in a different environment and the Bulls are a big union that have accomplished a lot in Super Rugby.’
