Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes that Masandawana are in the best position on the Absa Premiership standings, after their recent victory over Ajax Cape Town.

Mamelodi Sundowns have recently rediscovered their form in the Absa Premiership and are well on track to challenge for the title, with a few matches remaining until the end of the season.

The former Bafana Bafana coach says he is pleased with his side’s current league position after jumping into second placed, following their victory in midweek action.

‘It’s never wise to be on top (of the league standings) too soon,’ Mosimane told the media.

‘You have to be on top at the right time. I’m happy with where we are. We are in the best position.’

Mosimane insists that there is no pressure on his side to walk away with a positive result against Abafana Bes’thende, as the Brazilians still have two games in hand over log leaders Cape Town City.

‘Even if it happens that we don’t come out with a win on Friday (against Arrows), we’ll need to stay there because we still have two games in hand that we need to play,’ he added.

‘There’ll come a time when we’ll need be at the top. What’s key now, is to never get too excited because the whole situation can change at any time.’

The 52-year-old believes Eric Tinkler’s side has a better chance of clinching the Absa Premiership, following their recent run of results.

‘The title is in Cape Town City’s hands at the moment. They are the ones with the most points. When you have the most points, you’ll remain at the helm of the log,’ Mosimane said.

‘They are the most well-rested team. When last did they play, I wasn’t expecting Kaizer Chiefs to give them a hard time.

‘They are still very fresh. We take on Arrows (on Friday) and who will they be playing against? We’ll play again on Monday (away to Bidvest Wits) and I’m not too sure about whether they’ll be playing again or not.

‘And I’m saying this now, Cape Town City are the ones who have a better chance (of winning the league) than any other team in this league,’ he concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns will now travel to the Princess Magogo Stadium when they face Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership on Friday.

Kick-off has been scheduled for 20:00.
