Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his side has to accept their 1-0 defeat to Bidvest Wits and focus on their upcoming match against Platinum Stars.

Ben Motshwari’s 42nd-minute goal at the Bidvest Stadium proved to be the difference as the Clever Boys overtook the defending champions to claim first place in the Absa Premiership standings, while Sundowns trail them by a point.

Despite their first defeat in six games, Mosimane insists that his side will focus on their remaining five matches, as they continue their bid to defend their title.

‘Football is not about should have and could have, the ball must go inside the net. We’ve been having a good run, we’ve been scoring a lot of goals and only conceded one,’ Mosimane said after the game.

‘Tonight, you are ungrateful or unfair to the players if you want to complain about conceding one goal in six games. We still have six games [five] to go.’

‘Jingles’ felt the Students, who netted three minutes before the break through a Ben Motshwari header, showed more hunger in the first stanza at Bidvest Stadium.

The 52-year-old admits that the Clever Boys made it difficult for the Brazilians to play in the first-half, but insists that his side were undone by a lack of composure in the final third.

‘To be honest, in the first half they wanted it more than us, they fought more, they had a bigger fight than us in the first half,’ he added.

‘It’s football, you have to accept it. We had chances but we didn’t take them.’

Mamelodi Sundowns will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Platinum Stars in the Absa Premiership on Thursday.
