Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has called for better defending from his side ahead of their Absa Premiership encounter against Golden Arrows on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.
The Glamour Boys found themselves in contention for the PSL title after embarking on an impressive 12-match unbeaten streak in the league. However, all that changed in a space of a week, as Steve Komphela’s men lost 3-2 to Cape Town City, before playing to a 2-2 stalemate against SuperSport United, which all but ended their hopes of clinching the title.
In both games, Chiefs conceded stoppage goals by Judas Moseamedi and Aubrey Modiba respectively. Masilela has highlighted that there is no margin for error in Amakhosi’s final four league games of the season, citing their recent lapses in concentration, particularly in defence at critical times in the game.
‘We’ve been playing well, but lack of concentration has led to us conceding silly goals and dropping crucial points,’ he told the club’s website.
‘As defenders, we need to do much more to ensure that we win matches, because trophies are ultimately won through solid defence,’ he concluded.
Amakhosi occupy fourth position on the table, while Clinton Larsen’s men languish in ninth. Chiefs will be hoping to extend their unbeaten record at home this season, when the two sides clash on Saturday at 20:15.
