Amajita coach Thabo Senong says he is pleased with the squad’s progression during their preparation for the upcoming 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup in Korea.
The South African U20 Men’s National Team beat Gauteng Province champions of the ABC Motsepe League Maccabi 1-0 in a practice match on Monday in Balfour Park, Johannesburg.
Braga forward Luther Singh scored the only goal of the match to hand Amajita the win as they continue their preparations for the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Senong says he is pleased with the squad’s preparations as they now take on Costa Rica in an international friendly match on 15 May.
‘We are traveling this week to ensure that the players have adequate time to acclimatize before the tournament starts – due to the huge time difference (seven hours) the players will need as much time as possible to do so as failure to deal with this could be detrimental to the team’s performance,’ Senong told Safa.net.
‘So we want to prepare them properly, lay a good foundation for them to do well and not take short cuts. I am also glad our preparations are going to plan and that is very pleasing.’
South Africa U20 side have been placed in Group D alongside Japan, Uruguay and Italy, kicking off their World Cup against Japan on 21 May 2017.
