Shaun Pollock emphasised Kagiso Rabada’s potential to become the complete seamer but reminds us not to pile too much pressure on the young speedster.
Rabada has been the vocal point of the Proteas’ bowling attack and stepped up in the absence of Dale Steyn who suffered a shoulder injury in the Australia series last year, which has subsequently ruled him out of the entire UK Tour.
Pollock, in quotes published on Sky Sports’ website, has revealed his excitement at seeing the young seamer in action in the Champions Trophy.
‘He’s been a real find for us and he has definitely matured into his role at international level,’ said the Proteas legend.
‘If he continues to develop at the same rate in all formats he could become the complete bowler for South Africa.
‘He’s still very young and has so much time ahead of him – I think we tend to forget that about him – but I’m really looking forward to seeing how he goes in England, in particular with the Duke ball.
‘For a young man he’s already had to shoulder an awful lot of responsibility when an injury has affected Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel’ said Pollock.
‘With Steyn ruled out of the tour and Kyle Abbott no longer available, it’s important that Rabada does well and he, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander make a very decent trio.’
The Proteas completed their warm-up games against Sussex and Northamptonshire with two wins, and will now turn to their three-match ODI series against England which kicks off on Wednesday.
