The South Africa Football Association have confirmed that Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United will face disciplinary action for not releasing their players on time for the Fifa U20 World Cup.

Reeve Frosler and Teboho Mokoena, who missed out on Amajita’s opening match against Japan, and were only released for the last two games as the National team were eliminated from the group stages.

Frosler helped Wits win the Absa Premiership, while Mokoena helped SuperSport reach the final of the Nedbank Cup before the pair was released by their respective clubs.

Safa boss Dennis Mumble insists that the association will continue with their disciplinary action against the Clever Boys and Matsatsantsa following the arrival of Amajita at the Or Tambo International Airport on Monday.

‘That case is continuing. The chair of the DC last week said he needed to study this again, but we are pursuing this thing. We are not going to let it go now that the competition is over,’ Mumble told Sowetan Live.

‘We want to set a precedent. The league has been supportive, but these two clubs have been disappointing when it comes to releasing players.

‘We have to make sure people understand that our rules and the country come first.’

Mumble has confirmed that the matter will be reviewed to find out if the respective clubs will be fined or banned from using the playing for a certain amount of time.

‘We will review to see what we do going forward,’ he said.
