Roger Federer beat Mischa Zverev 7-6 (7/3), 6-4, 6-4 to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon.
Federer will next face Grigor Dimitrov on Monday for a place in the quarter-finals.
‘I thought it was a fun match to play against a serve-and-volley player,’ said Federer. ‘You’ll always see some lobs, passing shots and drop shots.
‘We go one round at a time and I must say it’s always the first goal to get to the second week at some stage.
‘I’m very happy now to sit back, relax a day and come back strong, hopefully on Monday.’
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic beat Ernests Gulbis 6-4, 6-1, 7-6 (7/2), having been a break down in the first set and taken to a tiebreak in the third.
‘I’m delighted with what I achieved today,’ Djokovic said. ‘I raised the level of tennis. Comparing to the first couple of matches and the last couple of weeks, I think this was the most focused I was on the court and obviously at the right time because Gulbis, he is a great challenge.
‘He is very unpredictable and he’s got a huge serve. The average is around 125, 140 mph. He started very well, he was a break up, but then I managed to win seven or eight games in a row and that gave me a lot of confidence. Just in general, I’m very pleased with the way I felt and the way I played.’
Women’s top seed Angelique Kerber saved her No 1 ranking by beating US world No 70 Shelby Rogers 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), 6-4.
The German lost the first set and was a break down in the second, but fought back to reach Monday’s fourth round, where she will face Garbine Muguruza.
Kerber said winning the match from a seemingly lost position may just have turned her season around.
‘It was a very important match for me. Last year, I came back so many times. It was important to have that self-awareness from last year again. I can do it, I can turn the matches around again. It is back.’
