Slovenian Primoz Roglic won stage 17 of the Tour de France on Wednesday, while Britain’s Chris Froome extended his overall lead to 27 seconds.
Roglic, who led by 90 seconds at the top of the Galibier, raced down the long descent to finish 73 seconds ahead of Columbia’s Rigoberto Uran.
‘Crazy, huh? Incredible. This stage of the Galibier? No words,’ said the 27-year-old winner afterwards.
‘Right now I can still not really ponder all these feelings, later I will know how big it is. I somehow decided to go for it finally today. Also my girlfriend and family were here today.’
Meanwhile, Froome finished third by pipping Frenchman Romain Bardet to the line and is now 27 seconds ahead of Bardet and Uran. Fourth-placed Italian Fabio Aru is 53 seconds behind Froome.
South Africa’s Louis Meintjes finished nine in the stage and is eighth in the overall classification.
