Lewis Hamilton won the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, with rival Sebastian Vettel finishing second.
Hamilton extended his lead over Vettel in the drivers’ championship to 66 points, with just 75 points available in the three remaining races.
To prevent Hamilton from winning the championship in Mexico next weekend, Vettel would have to win the race and hope Hamilton finishes sixth or lower.
While Hamilton lost the lead to Vettel at the start of the US Grand Prix, he passed him for the lead at Turn 12 on lap six and never relinquished it.
‘At the start it was looking good, we got past Lewis, but we had to realise we couldn’t go at his pace,’ said Vettel.
‘We were then in no-man’s land and were not quite sure what to do. We decided to pit again, with a fresh set of tyres and it was a bit more exciting but overall it was not the result we needed.
‘They were quicker than us and we have to admit that.’
