David Miller scored the fastest 100 in T20I history to boost South Africa to 224-4  in the second T20I in Potchefstroom. JON CARDINELLI reports.

Bangladesh let the Proteas off the hook. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, the visitors did well to limit South Africa to 78-3 in the first 10 overs. That effort included the wicket of the danger man, AB de Villiers.

Hashim Amla, and subsequently Miller, proceeded to up the scoring rate and steer South Africa to a formidable total. Amla reached his 50 off 32 balls, and then shifted gear as the end of the innings approached.

Amla was on course for a richly deserved century until he was caught in the deep. Miller made the most of his time in the middle, smashing his highest score in T20I cricket (101 off 36 balls.). That effort included five consecutive sixes in the penultimate over.

Miller reached his 100 off 35 balls to break the record for the fastest century in T20I history (the previous record was held by Richard Levi, who scored a ton off 45 balls).

Thanks to Miller’s clean hitting, the Proteas scored 90 runs in the last five overs. Bangladesh will need to score at 11.20 runs per over to win the game and avoid yet another series whitewash.
