SportsClub.co.za rates the individual performances of Bafana Bafana players, following their 2-0 loss against Senegal at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday night.

Itumeleng Khune: 6/10

Was let down by his defence for the early goal and did well to keep out the initial shot for the second goal, before seeing the ball ricochet into the back of the net from Mkhize’s unfortunate header. Wasn’t his influential self.

Clayton Daniels: 5/10

Had a decent outing, barring the first goal where his positioning left much to be desired. Squandered a great chance to reduce the deficit.

Morgan Gould: 4/10

Was caught napping for the opener, but other than that had a decent game. Struggled with the pace and direct nature of Sadio Mane.

Thamsanqa Mkhize: 5/10

Proved unbelievably unlucky to put the ball into his own net. Like the rest of the defence, struggled to deal with Mane, but showed his class when on attack.

Sifiso Hlanti: 4/10

Often got out of position and was found wanting defensively. Was on the wrong side of Mane for the opening goal and needs to have more faith in himself when going forward.

Dean Furman: 7/10

One of the best players on the pitch for the home side. Got stuck in, both on attack and defence, proving integral in all areas of the pitch.

Kamohelo Mokotjo: 6/10

Initially did an excellent job with his tight man-marking to minimise the threat of Mane. The Brentford man put in a solid shift with some nice distribution, but failed to make an impact in the final third.

Lebogang Manyama: 5/10

Justified his selection to the team and looked like the home side’s go-to-guy on attack for the most part, but faded. Was unfortunate to see his shot strike the crossbar and was replaced in the second half.

Themba Zwane: 6/10

‘Mshishi’ delivered an energetic performance and made his presence felt in the final third. Could have gotten on to the scoresheet, but skied his effort after good interplay by Bafana.

Sibusiso Vilakazi: 5/10

His off-the-ball movement needs to be commended. Had a better second half than the first, but not his finest display for the national team, and failed to combine with Sundowns duo Tau and Zwane.

Percy Tau: 5/10

A game to forget for the African Player of the Year nominee. Was largely left frustrated by the Senegalese defence, who constantly exploited their superior strength. Did provide a few sparkling moments, but not to the desired effect.

Substitutes:

Andile Jali: 6/10

After his apparent suspension, replaced Manyama in the second half much to everybody’s shock. Came on to good effect and made the team tick at times.

Siphiwe Tshabalala: 5/10

Replaced Themba Zwane, but had too little time on the pitch to make a meaningful impact.

Bradley Grobler: N/A

Replaced Vilakazi late on and didn’t spend enough time on the pitch to get a rating.
