Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes that his side could have a say on where they league title ends up this season, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
In December, Hunt’s team were rooted to the bottom of the table but have seen a change in fortune since the turn of the year. The defending champions have won five out of their nine fixtures in 2018, drawing three and losing just one. This form has given the Clever Boys some much needed confidence going into the final seven games.
The outgoing champions are still to play the top three sides in, Maritzburg United, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, in their remaining fixtures. Hunt believes that these fixtures could decide where the title ends up.
Speaking at the Absa Premiership Monthly awards, the Wits coach said, ‘I said it at halfway [of the season]. We will decide where the league title goes. That’s for sure because of who we got to play.’
‘As you know, we got to play two teams or three teams that are challenging [for the title]. So we will be fighting for something different but those names will be fighting for the league title,’ added Hunt.
Bidvest Wits will take on title chasers Maritzburg United on 3 April at the Bidvest Stadium.
