Bafana Bafana defender Robyn Johannes says he is grateful to Cape Town City for everything they have done for him over the past two seasons.

The 31-year-old played his final game for the Citizens during their narrow 1-0 victory over Orlando Pirates at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

Johannes is suspended for their final league encounter against AmaZulu after picking up a yellow card against the Buccaneers.

The former Pirates defender says he is grateful for everything he has accomplished with the Citizens ahead of his move to Bidvest Wits.

‘Oh, I didn’t know I’m suspended, so it’s the last game for the club. I’m grateful for everything they have done for me for the last two years. We want to try and finish as high as we can. I think this is a great club with a great future. All the best for them for next season,’ Johannes told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘Sadly my journey [at Cape Town City] comes to an end but the fans, every single week they made me bring my “A” game. It’s family and friends in the stands every week. All I wanted to do was to perform at the best of my abilities.

‘I did that for the last two years. I’m thankful to the Almighty I haven’t really been injured in the last two years, I’ve played a lot of football and I’m grateful for that. Great club, great fans.’

During his two-year stint at the Cape Town-based outfit, Johannes has managed to rack up 54 appearances in all competitions.

Cape Town City will be without their suspended captain when they take on AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium in their final game of the season on 12 May, with kick-off set for 3pm.
