The Premier Soccer League chairman Irvin Khoza revealed on Monday that the charges laid against him by Safa president Danny Jordaan are untrue, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
On Sunday, news reports surfaced where Jordaan claimed that Khoza was the catalyst in the rape case opened against him last month by singer and former ANC MP Jennifer Ferguson, who has accused the Safa boss of raping her in a Port Elizabeth hotel 25 years ago.
Jordaan said Khoza had paid for Ferguson’s flights and accommodation through a third party as the singer, who now lives in Sweden, travelled to Johannesburg to file the rape charge with police in Parkview.
Jordaan then later confirmed that he had opened a case of defamation, criminal collusion and conspiracy against Khoza but refused to give details.
The head of the PSL called media in for a press conference at the PSL head offices to respond to the allegations.
‘Let me say from the onset. I do not know Miss Jennifer Ferguson, nor have I ever met her, spoken to her or had any form of contact with her.
‘I know nothing [about] what is alleged by Dr Danny Jordaan both by the police and the media about me.’
The PSL boss then gave a timeline of events where he exposed that during last Fridays’ Safa executive meeting, Jordaan revealed that he is ‘mounting a massive fight’ and insinuated Khoza’s involvement in something he was going to ‘expose and fight’.
The chairman said that when he inquired about the content of the fight, the Safa president allegedly told him that he should ‘wait for Saturday and Sunday to see’ (when the media reports began to surface).
‘It is important to point out a tactic that Danny Jordaan uses quite effectively against his perceived enemies. He attacks people in public and the apologises privately,’ added Khoza.
‘I know Jordaan has a wild imagination in relation to me. He sees my goals whenever he faces difficulty, even for him this should be a bridge too far.
‘I am following up on the evidence made available to journalists to back up these bizarre allegations. Miss Jenifer Ferguson has issued a statement to the fact that I don’t know her, and she does not know me and I have nothing to do with her case.’
The Iron Duke highlighted that he has spoken to his bankers, email service providers and the travel company allegedly used by Ferguson to ensure that he had no links to Jordaan’s claims.
‘I am to the full extent of the law not going to stop at anything until my name is cleared by my accusers. The charges of defamation and criminal collusion and conspiracy are unfounded and bear no truth. They are in fact malicious and an abuse of state organs and processes.
‘I refuse to be Danny Jordaan’s scapegoat as he looks to use my name as a diversion or scapegoat in a matter I have nothing to with,’ concluded Khoza.
