Kaizer Chiefs general manager Bobby Motaung has admitted that the club have been priced out of a number of top coaches as they continue their search to replace Steve Komphela.
The Amakhosi were close to appointing former Al Ahly coach Hossam El Badry after they had agreed to the terms of his contract. That was until Saudi billionaire Turki Al-Sheik completed a takeover of Al Assiouty, and gave the coach an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Speaking to SABC Sports, the Chiefs boss said, ‘The coaching search has been a nightmare because of the princes who are buying clubs.
‘We’ve had top coaches we interviewed but unfortunately, the euro/pound to the rand is a challenge.
‘We had one coach who we brought here and we agreed to terms and everything. When he got back home, he was flown in a private jet by a prince and was offered euros that we can only dream of,’ said Motaung on the failure to complete a deal for El Badry.

‘North Africa has not been kind to me. One day I will reveal the coaches we interviewed. I mean for somebody to be paid €2.5-million net per annum, that’s huge. Our structures in South Africa can’t match that.’
