Kaizer Chiefs beat Free State Stars 6-5 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time to lift the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
Amakhosi started the game off brightly and nearly broke the deadlock in the opening stages of the match, but Stars goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare was on hand to keep the scoreline level at 0-0.
Kabelo Mahlasela nearly opened the scoring in the 21st minute, but the midfielder failed to hit the target with his effort from close range.
Chiefs eventually broke the deadlock eight minutes later Leonardo Castro latched onto a Khama Billiat cross before finding the net with his volley.

However, Chiefs came out victorious after winning the penalty shoot-out 6-5.
