Amajita will open their 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup account with a clash against six-time champions Argentina on Saturday 25 May.
The South African U20 national team were drawn in Group F alongside the likes of Argentina, Portugal and Korea DPR at the Gdynia Arena in Poland on Sunday evening.
Thabo Senong’s men qualified for the World Cup for the second consecutive time after finishing third in the U20 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Niger earlier this month.
Amajita’s second fixture will see them take on Korea three days after their clash against Argentina before they face Portugal in their final group stage game on 31 May.
The last time Amajita reached the knockout stages of the World Cup was back in 2009, when they were defeated 2-1 by Ghana in the last 16.
Speaking ahead of their participation in the global tournament, the Amajita coach said: ‘It is a known fact that all the nations who have qualified for the World Cup got there by merit, and will therefore fight to the end in pursuit of doing well in the tournament.’
‘We must just work on our preparations and make sure we are ready for the tournament. Irrespective of who we draw, it is going to be a tough one and we must be ready for any eventuality.’
The 2019 Fifa U20 Men’s World Cup will take place from 23 May to 15 June.
