The South African Under-23 side fought back to earn a 1-1 draw by Congo Brazzaville in their U23 CAF Olympic first leg qualifier at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 43rd minute of the game through a goal from Love Bissila Mabiala.

The South Africans had spurned several opportunities to level matters and take control of the match but were punished by Mabiala for not taking full advantage of the situation

South Africa showed their intent in the second half as they went in search of an equalising goal and responded well when they found the back of the net in the 69th minute courtesy of a goal by Thapelo Maseko.

Coach David Notoane’s side will now take on the same opponents in the second leg at the Massamba-Debat Stadium on Monday.
