Bafana Bafana attacker Oswin Appollis revealed coach Hugo Broos urged them to get the win against South Sudan despite qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 22-year-old played a starring role to help Bafana secure a well-earned 3-0 victory over South Sudan in their final Group K qualifier.
South Africa finished top of Group K with 14 points after six matches, having won four and drawn two.
Appolis, who was named Man of the Match, revealed that the Belgian mentor told them to give it their all, despite having already qualified.
“I just to congratulate the boys today, I think they gave it their all and I am happy for the result,” Appollis told SABC Sport.
“When we saw we qualified for the AFCON [before the Uganda match], the coach told us that even so, we needed to go out and get the results in these two matches, and we did it.”
