Bafana Bafana have been dealt a further blow ahead of their game against Burkina Faso, with coach Stuart Baxter confirming that they will not play in a friendly ahead of their must-win World Cup qualifier.
Baxter announced his 25-man squad which will do duty against the Stallions at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, however their preparations have been dealt a blow after their friendly was cancelled forcing the home side to twerk their training.
The former SuperSport United coach made seven changes to the squad that suffered back-to back 2-1 defeats against Cape Verde. Baxter called up fresh blood in Reeve Frosler, Thamsanqa Mkhize, Lebo Mothiba, while Robyn Johannes and Motjeka Madisha were called up to replace the suspended Thulani Hlatshwayo and injured Eric Mathoho respectively.
With a number of new faces in the squad, Baxter will be scratching his head in a bid to properly assess the players and revealed that he will play a series of eleven-versus-eleven training games to select his squad for Saturday’s encounter.
‘Our friendly game has been cancelled,’ Baxter told the media.
‘There will be an internal 11 v 11 once we’ve done our recuperation after the Burkina Faso game. That will be for me to monitor all the players,’ he said.
Bafana face the Burkina Faso on Saturday with kickoff set for 15h00.
