Bafana Bafana moved to the top of the Group C standings following their 2-1 victory over Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
The South African national team kick started their World Cup qualifiers with a win over Benin which saw them moved to the top of the Group C standings with three points.
Bafana opened the scoring as early as the second minute thanks to Al Ahly striker Percy Tau, who slotted the ball past the Benin keeper after he was played through on goal.
South African doubled their lead just before the half time break through a goal by Khuliso Mudau after a scramble inside the box.
Benin managed to pull a goal back in the 69th minute after Steve Mounie volleyed the ball into the back of the net with Ronwen Williams rooted to the spot.
South Africa will be hoping for back to back victories when they take on Rwanda in the second World Cup qualifier on November 21.
