SportsClub.co.za rates the individual performances of Bafana Bafana players, following their impressive 3-1 victory against Burkina Faso at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Itumeleng Khune: 9/10
Bafana’s captain once again proved influential with a fine performance. Came to his side’s rescue when needed and contributed to two of the home side’s goals with his pinpoint distribution. Could do nothing about Traore’s late stunning consolation.
Thamsanqa Mkhize: 7/10
The debutant hardly set a foot wrong and did well in dealing with the pace and skill of Nakoulma. The Cape Town City man was also fierce in the tackle.
Sifiso Hlanti: 7/10
Defensively sound and showed his class in dealing with danger man Traore for most parts of the game.
Morgan Gould: 8/10
Marshalled the defence superbly and showed his experience on a few occasions to slow the tempo of the game down when the visitors were keen on a comeback.
Clayton Daniels: 7/10
Forged a formidable combination with Gould in the heart of the defence, which dealt with everything that the visitors threw at Bafana.
Bongani Zungu: 7/10
Kept it simple and was largely responsible for fellow midfielders, Moktojo and Jali’s freedom in the middle of the park. Was defensively superb, but was harshly sent off for an off-the-ball tussle with an opponent.
Kamohelo Mokotjo: 8/10
Proved his class and worth for the home side with an excellent all-round performance. Thrived in the defensive midfield position, but displayed his excellent passing ability and range with ease in the attacking third.
Andile Jali: 8/10
Played in an unfamiliar role as an attacking midfielder, but the move paid off dividends. Initially struggled to adapt, but once he got into the rhythm, he flourished. Assisted Zwane’s goal with a peach of a pass.
Themba Zwane: 8/10
Formed one third of the devastating Sundowns attacking trio that caused havoc for the visitors. Zwane was the chief destroyer with his menacing runs and link-up play with Percy Tau. Could have had a brace, but missed badly after getting the better of three defenders and the goalkeeper.
Sibusiso Vilakazi: 8/10
Vilakazi had one of his best performances in a national team jersey, and thrived in the lone-man striker role. Largely benefited from the combination with Tau and Zwane, but Vila also displayed his footballing ingenuity, allowing Tau and Zwane to benefit from his movement.
Percy Tau: 9/10
Opened the scoring after 45 seconds to give Bafana an early lead. Caused the visitors’ defence all sorts of problems with his pace, off-the-ball movement and trickery, and was virtually unplayable. Needs to work on timing of runs off last man though.
Substitutes:
Hlompho Kekana: 6/10
Came on for Jali to stabilise the midfield after the dismissal of Zungu. Did well to contain Burkina Faso threat.
Lebogang Manyama: 7/10
Looked lively upon his introduction for Vilakazi, and did what was required as Bafana looked to run time down.
Dino Ndlovu: N/A
Came on late to replace Percy Tau. Did not play enough minutes for a rating.
