Bafana Bafana midfielder Ethan Brooks has expressed his desire to one day represent South Africa at the Fifa World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.
The new AmaZulu signing made the final cut for coach Helman Mkhelele’s final 23-man squad for the Cosafa Cup as they take on Mozambique in the opening round of the tournament at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday, 13 July.
The 21-year-old midfielder was part of the squad that defeated Senegal in last season’s Cosafa Cup final but will now lead the national team as they look to successfully defend their title.
Brooks has now opened up about his ambition to honour his father by working towards representing the national team in Africa and on the global stage.
“I one day want to represent South Africa in an Afcon tournament and then play in the Fifa World Cup tournament one of the good days,” Brooks told Safa.
Brooks added that what helped them to go all the way and win the Cosafa Cup in the previous edition was their winning mindset and he believes the current crop of players shares the same mentality.
“What worked for last year’s group is that we all had a winner’s mindset and that is what helped us clinch the title,” he added.
“This current group of players share the same mindset and desire, too, and I believe we will do well there.”
