Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos admits he was disappointed that his side did not have anything to show for their brave performance against Morocco in their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The South African national team was forced to endure a narrow 2-1 defeat by Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium last Thursday.

South Africa managed to stun the home side when Lyle Foster handed them an eighth-minute lead, but fought back as Youssef En-Nesyri beat Williams with a header from close range in the 51st minute before Ayoub El Kaabi scored the winner in the 87th minute to hand his side all three points.

Bafana will now resume their group-stage qualifiers when they take on Liberia in back to back fixtures on 19 September, at home, and on 27 September away.

However, Broos remains confident his side will get the job done and beat the Lone Stars home and away as they attempt to qualify for the continental showpiece.

“I am very disappointed that we did not win,” Broos told Safa.net.

“When I see the first half, we started good, we scored a goal but from that moment it’s like there was a fear in the team not to lose what we had. There were maybe five or six chances that Morocco had.”
