France coach Didier Deschamps feels his side could have scored even more goals against Bafana Bafana despite claiming a resounding 5-0 victory at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Tuesday evening.
The world champions displayed a commanding and dominant performance as they ran riot over the South African side in Lille –through a brace by Kylian Mbappe and goals from Olivier Giroud, Wisaam Ben Yedder and Matteo Guendouzi.
France fielded a star-studded squad to face Bafana, which included Mbappe, N’Golo Kante, Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba, who came on as a second-half substitute.
Deschamps believes the friendly was a huge learning curve for them, looking to correct mistakes as they prepare to defend their Fifa World Cup title in Qatar.
“I’m demanding as a coach,” Deschamps said in his post-match media conference, per Le 11 HDF.
“We have already confronted teams like South Africa who defend well in numbers before and we were able to create a lot of chances, we could even have scored more.
“All this was very positive even if there were some corrections that needed to be made. This match will serve us well for the next matches in June.”
