Bafana Bafana and Burnley striker Lyle Foster has revealed a list of players who has inspired him throughout his career.
The 23-year-old has been in fine form recently, having scored two goals in his last two games in the Premier League against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Orlando Pirates striker also got his name on the scoresheet for the national team when he bagged the winning goal as Bafana secured a narrow 1-0 win over DR Congo in an international friendly played at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Foster says that he draws all his inspiration from the likes of Benni McCarthy, Kermit Erasmus, Thamsanqa Gabuza and Leonardo Castro.
“So overall, generally, the role model and focal point were Benni [McCarthy], you know what he’s achieved in the [Uefa] Champions League, finishing second in the Golden Boot race in the Premier League with Blackburn [Rovers],” Foster told the media as per Goal.com.
“What he has achieved, he has always been the guy I looked up to, but just like in South African football.
“I used to come to Orlando Stadium all the time, that time it was Kermit [Erasmus] and [Thamsanqa] Gabuza, those were the two guys I fell in love with,” the Bafana striker added.
“[Leonardo] Castro at Sundowns at the time, so Castro isn’t South African but referencing South African guys, Benni was always that guy for any striker in South Africa and then Kermit and Gabuza as well.”
