Bafana Bafana midfielder Dean Furman believes the South African national team has let the country down for ‘too long’ by not qualifying for major tournaments.

Stuart Baxter’s men were forced to settle for a point against Libya in their Afcon qualifier following their goalless draw at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

They remain in second place in Group E, level on four points with leaders Libya ahead of their two-legged clash against Seychelles.

Furman believes his side should not be dropping points ‘in these kind of games’ and should be taking advantage of the quality they have within the squad to qualify for major tournaments.

‘It’s too long now that we’ve been letting ourselves down, Bafana Bafana down, and the country down by not qualifying for major tournaments, and until we improve on that and take advantage of these kind of games where we should be picking up three points, we’re going to cause ourselves problems going forward,’ Furman told the media.

‘I think a winning mentality is everything, and we have to approach games as if they’re the Afcon final, because that’s how important they are.’

Bafana Bafana will next take on Seychelles in their Afcon Group E encounter on 10 October.
