Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho is eager to make the most of his first call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad.
The 22-year-old, who is second on Chiefs’ scoring list, has missed only two matches in the Premiership for the Glamour Boys this season, and was rewarded with a place in interim coach Owen da Gama’s squad.
‘I just think [I’ve got to be] to be consistent in my performances for the club and bring it to the national team. Like the coach [Owen da Gama] said, I must enjoy myself, work hard and be consistent in my performances, and the rest will take care of itself,’ Gordinho said.
‘Of course it is important for every South African player to be part of the national team. Everyone wants to play for their country. I just think for myself, it is something that will be a good achievement for me to be a regular in the squad. But nothing is certain, so I’ve got to work hard, perform well, be consistent and hopefully cement my place in the squad.
‘Having said that, I just want to say I’m happy to be here and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of the squad and to be included in the squad. I’m excited to get going, excited to start working for the team.’
Bafana face Guinea-Bissau at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. The match kicks off at 15:00.
