Bafana Bafana defender Morgan Gould is hopeful that fans will flock to the FNB Stadium for the World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso on Saturday afternoon.
The home side face the possibility of playing in front of the lowest-ever crowd on Saturday after the stadium management CEO, Jacques Grobbelaar, confirmed on Tuesday that only 300 tickets were sold just days before the clash.
The veteran SuperSport United defender commented on the reportedly dire situation, and said that he is confident that they will not play in front of an empty stadium.
‘I don’t think we’re going to see orange seats come Saturday, because people are going to come out in their numbers,’ Gould told reporters after a training session.
‘The less [open seats] the better, even if it’s not the case, we’re just going to go out and I can assure you that we’re going to give 300 or more percent, just to show the nation that we’re hurting.
‘What better way to show that than to do the graft and get the best result for us, which is nothing less than three points,’ he added.
South Africa will need to garner a victory against the Stallions to keep their chances of securing a spot at next year’s World Cup, but Gould insisted that Stuart Baxter’s charges are buoyed by the task.
‘The guys are motivated. I mean, for you to don the jersey, it’s a huge honour in your career and life to represent our nation.
‘That’s what each and every player who plays abroad and locally wants to do. So the next player that wants to come into the national team would do exactly the same.
‘It’s one of those games where, I wouldn’t say it’s a do-or-die, but we’re going to out there living each moment of the game as a do-or-die, and trying to get a good result, which is a win for us,’ he concluded.
