Bafana Bafana midfielder Grant Margeman is relishing the chance to represent South Africa when they take on Namibia and DR Congo in both international friendlies at the Orlando Stadium.
South Africa are set to face Namibia in the first friendly on Saturday before taking on DR Congo in the second friendly on Tuesday.
Hugo Broos’ men will use this friendlies as preparations for the upcoming Africa cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire in January next year as well as for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.
Margeman, who has already been capped twice for Bafana, is looking forward to proving himself and cement his place in the national team moving forward.
“This is really where I want to be, with the national team or really just playing football in general. So now that I’m here, I’m happy to see some familiar faces but also to be given the chance to prove myself to the coach and show him what I’m capable of,” said Margeman.
“I was actually watching it on television along with my wife when the coach called the final squad, and the feeling was just unreal. I think my wife screamed louder than I did and it’s something we have both been wanting for a really long time. It’s also great to have the support of family, to spur me on.
“I know that I’m new in the set-up, that the team really retains its core and that the rest is up to me to prove.”
South Africa against Namibia is scheduled to kick off at 3pm on Saturday.
