Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba insists he could select players from the U23 squad to competed in the Fifa World Cup qualifiers in October.

The South African U23 side were eliminated from the 2016 Rio Olympics Games in the Group stages of the tournament after drawing two of their three Group A matches in Brazil, reports KickOff.com.

Mashaba revealed that he would like to add a few of the South African Olympic to his Bafana Bafana squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

‘I’m waiting for the technical committee to come back. We will sit down and look at all our upcoming games. We will get a report of individual players,’ Mashaba said.

‘I will hear what is actually happening and we will take it from there. But I would love to see some of the boys playing in the qualifiers.’

The South African mentor insists that the players will be nurtured into the senior side without putting any pressure on them.

‘Olympics is a bridge to the senior national team. The way those boys have played, one of the games we should take almost the whole squad and see what happens,’ he added.

‘But the problem is we tend to look for results speedily, we don’t want to build towards that because the longer we bring them up they will lose courage. In some of the games, we will have some of the players coming in.

‘This team in Rio was something else. They could play and match any other team.’
