Former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena has joined the senior national team’s management for their 2018 World Cup qualifiers with Cape Verde.

The former Blackburn Rovers man has joined the team on a temporary basis, in an initiative that aims to empower legends of the game, according to SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble.

“This is part of SAFA’s endeavour to empower our legends of the game,” he said.

“We have resolved as the association to work closely with our legends in a number of initiatives, whether it is within the coaching education, assisting in coaching our various national teams and many other areas.

“Most of these relations are not on full-time basis but wherever we think our legends can play a major role, we will definitely make use of them,” he added.

Mbazo’s inclusion means that Baxter is now being aided by two former national team players in Quinton Fortune (assistant coach) and Andre Arendse (goalkeeper coach).

The team will jet off to Cape Verde on Tuesday morning and are expected to land at 20h00 on the same day.

The two sides face off in Praia on Friday before Bafana host the islanders four days later at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
