Maritzburg United midfielder Deolin Mekoa has received a late Bafana Bafana call-up to replace Tebogo Langerman in the squad to face Senegal on Saturday.
The 23-year-old has made a good start to the season having already made eight appearances in all competitions for the Team of Choice.
The former South African U23 midfielder says he is honoured to be called up the national team again, declaring it’s a great experience for him as a player to be in a squad with the best players in the country.
‘Albeit this being a replacement call-up, being called to be part of the National Senior team is always an honour. Whether one gets to play or not, being part of the environment with the best players in the country is a great experience,’ Mekoa told the Maritzburg United website.
United’s marketing and communications manager Brian Zuma believes Mekoa’s call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad will give him the chance to gain valuable experience on a national level.
‘These call-ups shape the mindset of players to see themselves as assets to the country. We have no doubt about the National Team qualities that Deolin possesses,’ Zuma said.
Bafana Bafana will now lock horns with Senegal in their World Cup qualifier at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. Kick off is at 3pm.
Kick-off has been set for 15:00.
