Bafana Bafana defender Thapelo Morena says they created chances and converted them, which he believes was the “difference” in the game against Zimbabwe.
Morena came off the bench to net a brace to help South Africa clinched a much-needed 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium on Tuesday.
The win saw Bafana move up to second place in the Group C standings with seven points from three games, having won two games, drawn one and conceded one defeat.
Morena says they were aiming for six points in the two World Cup qualifiers but walked away with four points and the Mamelodi Sundowns defender was happy with the result.
“First of all, I’d like to thank god, I’d like to thank the technical team for believing in me to help the team change the game,” Morena told SABC Sport after the game.
“It feels really great, especially after being so long in Blom again, we done it for them because its been so long not having a team and thanks also to the supporters.
“I think it was very important to play the game from the bench, seeing the situation that they experienced behind the defence and the most important thing is we created the chances and we converted them and that’s the difference.
“I think before we left for Nigeria, the most important thing was to get six points but if we can’t them we get four from that and eventually we done that.
“I’m greatful to the whole team because we delivered and played really well today,” he concluded.
