Bafana Bafana defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele wants the national team to make history by claiming back-to-back victories over Nigeria.
The South African national team are set to welcome the Super Eagles to the FNB Stadium when they square off in a crucial African Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.
South Africa are currently placed second on the table in Group E with eight points after four games, trailing Nigeria by a point, who sit at the summit of the group.
Mphahlele has been in fine form for Kaizer Chiefs recently, which saw him already bag three goals so far this season and the lanky defender will be hoping to bring his current form into the national team.
‘It is always about the team and national pride is at stake,’ Mphahlele told his club’s official website.
‘Individual performances count when they contribute to the team’s success. I am looking forward to being part of the Bafana Bafana team that will make history of back-to-back wins over Nigeria.’
The Amakhosi defender insists that Bafana have moved on following their stalemate against Seychelles in their previous encounter and will be relishing the chance to claim all three points on home soil.
‘We missed lots of chances against Seychelles,’ he added, ‘but we have moved on and put that behind us.
‘We are calling on South Africans to come in their numbers and rally behind the team on Saturday.’
‘We will do our best to represent the country with honour and dignity,’ Mphahlele concluded.
The match at the FNB Stadium is scheduled for 3pm.
