Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Nsteki admits he is monitoring and profiling Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Kearyn Baccus, who has declared himself open to play for South Africa.

Baccus was born in South Africa but holds dual citizenship after growing up in Australia.

The midfielder, who made the move back to his country of birth to join the Soweto giants, has said he would be open to representing South Africa on the international stage.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Ntseki said they are monitoring the situation around Baccus to see if he could add value to the team.

‘I was made aware last week that one of the Kaizer Chiefs players qualifies to play for South Africa. So the monitoring and profiling has already started, so that when we bring him in we should do so with the understanding to say what value is he going to add to the team,’ said Ntseki on Monday morning.

‘Everyone who raises up his hand to say I want to play for Bafana Bafana, we will do the right thing – profile, assess and observe. If you look at him, he has started with Chiefs, who are enjoying a good run. That’s when you see the best of some of the players because winning also brings confidence. We will continue to assess him, but it was good of him to say he is available and can play for South Africa,’ the coach explained.
