Bafana Bafana celebrate the opening goal against Mali in the Nelson Mandela Challenge

After not getting much game time ahead of their opening 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Ghana, SoccerClub predicts the Bafana Bafana starting XI for Thursday’s clash.

South Africa will face Ghana on Thursday, 14 November in Accra followed by a clash with Sudan on Sunday, 17 November at the Orlando Stadium.

Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki has selected the bulk of the team that defeated Mali 2-1 in the 2019 Nelson Mandela Challenge in Port Elizabeth earlier in October – his first assignment as the head coach of Bafana Bafana.

Keeping the core of his squad, Rowen Williams is expected to be entrusted with protecting the Bafana goal while captain Thulani Hlatshwayo and Buhle Mkhwanazi will be in the heart of the defence.

Cape Town City’s Thamsanqa Mkhize will be chosen at right back, while Bidvest Wits’ Sifiso Hlanti will be taking care of matters at left back.

Dean Furman will partner with Kamohelo Mokotjo in front of the defensive line, while Thulani Serero looking set to operate in his favourite No 10 role.

Thembinkosi Lorch will be playing up front on the right with Percy Tau hoping to dominate the west Africans on the left.

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Themba Zwane looks set to play alongside Percy Tau on the flanks, while Lebo Mothiba will get the nod to lead the attack as centre forward.

Predicted Bafana Bafana starting XI:

Ronwen Williams (gk), Thulani Hlatshwayo (c), Buhle Mkhwanazi, Thamsanqa Mkhize, Sifiso Hlanti, Dean Furman, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Thulani Serero, Themba Zwane, Percy Tau, Lebo Mothiba.
