Bafana Bafana’s journey in the Africa Cup of Nations came to an end after they conceded a 4-2 defeat in a penalty shootout against Nigeria at the Stade de Bouaké on Wednesday evening.
The Super Eagles opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 67th minute through William Troost-Ekong before a 90th-minute penalty scored by Teboho Mokoena sent the game into extra time.
Neither side could be separated during 120 minutes of play forcing the game to be settled in a penalty shootout.
Nigeria held strong to secure a 4-2 victory over South Africa to book their place in the final.
